This was a plea made by the ever-interesting Amber Naslund. She makes a compelling case to stop proclaiming ourselves experts, and instead re-examine what it is we don’t know (enough) about. As someone who has spent the past 9 years in higher education earning 4 different degrees, I can’t help but applaud her on this one. If my student loans weren’t continuing to pile up, I may have decided to become a professional student. But instead, I find myself in what will likely be the last semester of my institutionalized education. So what am I learning over the next few months? Click titles for the syllabus.
Strategic Management of Non Profits
Taught by our School of Management Dean, Sharon Oster, who literally wrote the book on the topic. Her latest research has been in the diffusion of innovation within the non-profit field. My final project for her class will hopefully incorporate how this idea operates within the nonprofit theatre industry.
Social Media Management
First time this class is being taught at SOM, so there’s bound to be a few bumps. A somewhat surprising level of interest from fellow classmates should make for lively discussions, combined with a more rigorously academic approach to an amorphous, quickly moving topic.
Decision Making with Spreadsheets

Doing Business in the Developing World
Last year I traveled to Egypt and Ghana with this professor, to meet with business, political, and social leaders and learn how things work in far away lands. It was pretty great. Since I have growing interest in international arts & artists, I’m hoping this class gives me a broad overview of the oft-arising and most pressing issues.
What this also means is that I’ll have a fair amount of additional research going on behind the scenes to keep up with all of these class assignments. When it seems relevant and of potential interest, I’ll try to post…
